About Dr. Bakota
Following the completion of her undergraduate degree at UCLA, Dr. Bakota served for two years in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic and later spent a year in Brazil. She earned her Ed.D. from Indiana University, followed by three years on the staff of the Georgia State University Counseling Center in Atlanta. She then relocated to Los Angeles and joined the counseling center staff at UCLA.
In her work as a psychologist on the staff of UCLA Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), she was Incoming Students Program Director and a regular speaker for the UCLA Summer Family Orientation Program, addressing audiences of hundreds of parents whose sons and daughters are leaving home to enter the university. Dr. Bakota provided consultation to UCLA parents, faculty, and staff and has provided treatment to thousands of students. She has supervised dozens of CAPS interns and postdoctoral trainees. In addition, Dr. Bakota conducted the “Significant Other Survival” workshop for first-year law students and their partners. Dr. Bakota also initiated "Fluffy Friends at Finals," a stress-reduction program for students living in UCLA residence halls. During each academic quarter, as many as 250 students flock to residence hall lounges for a study break, where they can play, hug, pet and thoroughly enjoy the company of friendly, lovable dogs.
